Applications are now open to candidates in Years 4, 6, 8 and 10 for entry into Years 5, 7, 9 and 11 in 2019.
The Scholarships* are conducted during Term 1 each year (usually February/March) and they represent a reduction in the tuition fees.
Scholarships are offered in the following categories:
* The School reserves the right not to award all Scholarships every year.
** Scholarships are only offered for Year 5 entry if there are vacancies available.
Candidates applying for an Academic, Music, Performing Arts or Visual Arts Scholarship must undertake an external examination, held at the School.
The Scholarship examination will be held on Thursday, 22nd February, 2018. These examinations are conducted by an external testing organisation, Robert Allwell & Associates, and can only be undertaken on the nominated date.
If applying for Music or Performing Arts Scholarships (Years 5, 7, 9 and 11), candidates must also attend an audition and if applying for a Visual Arts Scholarship (Years 9 and 11 only), candidates must submit a portfolio of original works.
Candidates applying for an Entrance Scholarship (Years 5, 7, 9 and 11) are not required to undertake the Scholarship examination. Students already enrolled in Blue Mountains Grammar School are eligible to apply for the examination-based Scholarships only, i.e. Academic, Music, Performing Arts and Visual Arts.
Scholarships, once awarded, are in place for the duration of a student's study at Blue Mountains Grammar School and are subject to annual review.
In addition to the general Entrance Scholarships for Years 5, 7, 9 and 11, The Blue Mountains Grammar School Foundation offers The Tom Carr-Boyd Memorial Scholarship For Outdoor Education. This Scholarship is open to students entering Year 11 only, and is applied for whilst a candidate is in Year 10. This Scholarship represents a 50% reduction in tuition fees for the duration of the student's HSC studies.
All candidates who reach the short-list are interviewed by the Headmaster. It is an expectation that students awarded a Music, Performing Arts or Visual Arts Scholarship elect Music, Drama or Visual Arts subjects, respectively, in their courses of study throughout secondary school, including as one of their HSC courses.
It is also an expectation that students awarded a Music or Performing Arts Scholarship for entry into Year 5 or Year 7 are enrolled in the Performing Arts classes for those Year groups.
